Public workers keep stronger union protections

The law says state civil service rules cannot override a union contract that gives more protection. If your contract gives stronger rights against suspension or demotion when positions are cut, you keep those rights. Public employers must honor those stronger terms in current and future agreements. The law takes effect immediately.
