Arson convictions bar fire leaders

Anyone convicted of arson cannot be nominated, elected, or appointed as fire chief or assistant chief. A person convicted of arson also cannot serve as a company officer like captain, lieutenant, warden, or delegate. If an officer is convicted while serving, they cannot finish the term. The law takes effect immediately.

Croton fire leadership votes in December

In Croton-on-Hudson, each fire company now holds its annual meeting on the first Tuesday in December. Elected delegates meet on the Thursday after that Tuesday. At the first annual meeting after this law takes effect, members elect two wardens and three delegates with staggered terms. Wardens serve one and two years; delegates serve one, two, and three years. The law takes effect immediately.
