More aid for volunteer firefighters and families

The association can provide aid to volunteer members who are disabled, in need, or injured while doing their duties. Their families can also receive aid. The association can promote members’ and families’ welfare, health, and safety, maintain a headquarters, and offer social and recreational activities. The law does not set benefit amounts or promise payments.

Broader uses for fire tax funds

Starting January 1, 2027, the association can use foreign fire insurance tax receipts only for its stated purposes, including member and family support, health and safety, and social activities. The change applies to taxes due and premiums received on or after that date. The receipts come from fire insurance on property in areas the Nesconset department protects or must protect. The law gives no amount for the tax receipts.

Paid firefighters cannot join association

Paid firefighters of the Nesconset Fire District or Nesconset Volunteer Fire Department cannot join the benevolent association. The law gives no dollar value for membership or related support.
