3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 2 mixed.

Statewide safe gun storage campaign

The Health Department must run a public campaign on safe gun storage and child access prevention. By July 1, 2025, shareable materials are online and available to any agency on request. The materials cover New York laws, including Penal Law 265.45, 265.46, and 400.00, plus local rules. They explain storage methods and list violence‑prevention resources. The department updates them on July 1, 2026 and every July 1 after.

State ends one gun storage rule

The law repeals Section 847 of the Executive Law from 2024. Any duties or enforcement in that section no longer apply. This eases rules for some gun owners but removes one state rule meant to prevent child access to guns. The repeal takes effect on the same date as the 2024 safe‑storage law package.

When these changes take effect

The act is in effect now. But Sections 1 and 2 start on the same date and in the same way as the 2024 safe‑storage law. Agencies can begin needed rulemaking right away. Section 1 takes effect July 1, 2025.
