Cortland County mortgage tax authority lasts longer

The law extends Cortland County’s authority to charge an additional mortgage recording tax through December 1, 2027. That authority previously expired December 1, 2025. People recording mortgages there face the added cost if the county imposes the tax. The law does not change the tax rate or require the county to charge it. The act states it takes effect immediately. The amended text also includes a clause stating it takes effect 60 days after becoming law.
