Setauket and Stony Brook gain fire-service agreements

The Setauket and Stony Brook fire districts can contract with Stony Brook University through their governing bodies. Agreements must cover fire protection or emergency medical services within the district's protected territory and follow state contract rules. Exchanges must have roughly equal value and can include money, equipment, buildings, materials, or current or promised future services. The university can contract only within specific funding approved and available from the Legislature or the university's governing body. This authority begins January 1 of the year after the law was enacted.
