Stony Brook and fire districts can contract

The law lets the Setauket and Stony Brook fire districts sign contracts with Stony Brook University. Deals can cover fire protection or emergency medical services, and related property. They apply only inside each district’s service area. The university can give or get services, money, equipment, buildings, or materials of about equal value, including a promise to provide them later. The university can do this only when specific funding is available. Contracts must follow state rules for university and municipal agreements. Beginning January 1 after this became law, these contracts are allowed.
