New York extends blackfish rulemaking authority
Effective immediately, the law extends New York's Department of Environmental Conservation authority to set blackfish rules through December 31, 2028. These rules cover fish sizes, catch and possession limits, fishing seasons, and closed areas. They also cover fishing and landing methods, permits and who qualifies, records, fishing effort, gear, transportation, and sales. Rules cannot be less strict than state law. They must also meet applicable Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission and federal fishery management plan requirements.
