Brookhaven church can file tax exemption late

The Town of Brookhaven assessor can accept a late property tax exemption application from St. Mary AME Zion Church. It applies only to the parcel at 537 Granny Road, Medford (district 0200, section 545.00, block 03.00, lot 021.001). It covers the 2022-2023, 2023-2024, and 2024-2025 assessment rolls and is treated as filed on time. If the assessor finds the church would have qualified and the Town Board approves, the exemption can be granted and the rolls corrected. If taxes were paid, the town or tax department may refund the taxes and any fines or penalties, and cancel unpaid taxes.
