New York keeps existing rules that leave some income and assets out of public assistance eligibility checks. This helps applicants and recipients covered by those exemptions. The exemptions now expire on August 22, 2027, instead of August 22, 2025. The law takes effect immediately. For enactment on or after August 22, 2025, it applies retroactively to that date.
