The law extends New York’s DEC power over bluefish through December 31, 2028. DEC can set size, catch, and possession limits, and open or closed seasons and areas. It can require permits and records, limit gear and fishing effort, and control landing, transport, possession, and sale. All rules must be at least as strict as current state law and align with Atlantic and federal fishery plans. Fishers, dealers, and sellers can face tighter limits, while conservation supports long-term stock health. The law takes effect immediately.
