The law limits how much a property tax class’s share can rise each year on Long Island. In Nassau’s special assessing unit (not a city), the 2025 roll has a 1% cap. In Nassau approved assessing units, a 1% cap applies for the 2025 roll only if the locality adopts it by local law. In Suffolk approved assessing units, most roll pairs have a 2% cap; many listed pairs, including 2024–2025 and 2025–2026, have a 1% cap. If a class hits the cap, officials adjust other class shares so all add up to 100%.
