Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

E-signatures allowed on New York tax forms

Starting July 1, 2027, New York tax agencies accept digital or other electronic signatures on their forms. The commissioner sets the rules, and they follow IRS practices when possible. Someone with a valid power of attorney on file with the state or city tax department can sign for you electronically. That e-signature counts the same as a handwritten signature.

Old power-of-attorney e-sign rule ends 2027

On July 1, 2027, the state repeals a 2025 rule that let power-of-attorney holders use electronic signatures on New York tax and New York City finance documents. That specific rule no longer applies after that date.
