New York expands its monarch protection plan

New York’s monarch plan must identify alternatives to pest control practices, including pesticides, that may harm monarchs, their food, or habitat. The plan must increase and improve partnerships to create, restore, or improve monarch habitat. These partnerships cover home and institutional landscapes, farmland not in active production, transportation corridors, and land protected by conservation easements. The law does not ban pesticides, require landowners to join, or provide new funding. These changes take effect on the same date and in the same manner as the 2025 monarch preservation plan law.
