Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Infant walkers banned in child care

Beginning on the law’s effective date, licensed child care in New York cannot use or keep infant walkers on site. An infant walker is a mobile seat or frame that lets a child move while sitting or standing in it. This applies to state-licensed child day care and New York City programs permitted under the city health code. The Office of Children and Family Services, with NYC Health, notifies providers and new applicants about the ban in plain language. This adds safety for children in regulated care and requires providers to remove these devices.

State lifts infant walker sales ban

New York repeals the prior statewide ban on selling infant walkers. Retailers and manufacturers may sell and distribute them again. The related restrictions in that repealed section no longer apply. The change applies starting on the law’s effective date.
