When an opioid overdose medication is given at a covered workplace, the law treats it as first aid or emergency care. This gives legal protections to people who give or receive it under state first-aid rules. This rule starts on the same date as the 2025 labor-law change.
The law requires certain private workplaces to keep an opioid overdose medication with first-aid supplies. It applies only to employers that federal OSHA already requires to keep first-aid supplies. State and local government workplaces are not covered. The labor and health commissioners set how many doses are needed and who must be trained, and can finalize rules before the start date. The requirement begins on the same date the 2025 labor-law amendment takes effect.
