New York protects public lands from drilling
Effective immediately, New York cannot lease state forests, reforestation areas, wildlife management areas, or unique areas for oil or gas activities. The ban covers exploration, development, and production. State-owned parks and lands in the marine and coastal district also remain off-limits. Gas activities are barred on state-owned lands under Lake Ontario or along its shoreline. Oil activities are barred on state-owned lands under Lake Erie and Lake Ontario or along their shorelines.
