The law bans oil and gas exploration, drilling, and production on certain New York state lands. It covers state forests, reforestation areas, wildlife management areas, unique areas, and the marine and coastal district. It also bans oil activity under Lake Erie and Lake Ontario and along their shorelines, and bans gas activity under Lake Ontario and along its shoreline. Oil and gas activity may still occur on other state-owned lands that are not listed. The law takes effect immediately.
