Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 2 mixed.

Stronger truth in ads for consumers

The law defines false advertising as ads or labels that mislead in a material way, including by leaving out key facts. Ads cannot look like court or government papers or claim state approval without express permission. If an ad shows a price after a rebate, it must also show the real selling price and clearly say a mail-in rebate is required.

Clearer job ads for job seekers

Job ads must tell you if you have to buy or lease supplies or equipment. Ads must say if pay is commission-based and if listed pay depends on commissions. An employer is not liable if you did not lose money, or if it gave full written terms before any loss.

When these ad rules start

The law takes effect 60 days after enactment. Agencies can update rules right away so enforcement is ready on day one.
