State joins voter roll cleanup network

The State Board of Elections must join a multistate voter list network to keep rolls accurate. The State pays membership dues and related costs. The chief election official represents New York on the group’s board. The Board must finish joining by July 31, 2026. Leaving the network needs an affirmative vote by the Board, and the Board can set rules to carry out this law.

More data shared to keep voter rolls accurate

The state’s representative must share voter list data with the multistate group, including names, addresses, birth dates, voter ID, the last four digits of their Social Security number, DMV ID, and voter history. The DMV can give names, addresses, date of birth, DMV ID, the last four digits of Social Security number, phone, email, and record status to that representative. The DMV must not knowingly send data on non-citizens, and the Board must not share data for people in the confidential voter program. The Board uses the group’s data to update voter lists. Any mailing to people who might be able to register must clearly state who can register, including the citizenship rule.
