Help for communities after a college closes

Effective immediately, New York must provide technical help on request to local governments where a college or university has closed. The state works with the Department of Economic Development and the Department of Education. Help covers worker transitions and training, attracting employers and economic opportunities, and plans to reuse former campus land and buildings. It also includes planning advice for dealing with creditors and others with financial interests in the institution’s local assets. The state does not become a party to legal cases through this assistance.
