If a college or university closes in your city, town, or village, your local government can ask the state for help. The state, with the Departments of Economic Development and Education, gives technical assistance. Help covers worker transition and training, attracting new employers, and plans to reuse campus land and buildings. It also includes advice on handling creditors and others with financial claims on the school’s local assets. The state does not join any lawsuits, and the law takes effect immediately.
