Color rules for petroleum storage tanks

Owners and operators must keep every above-ground petroleum tank white or beige/cream, or use a coating that cuts fumes as much. The rule applies to every tank at a site, even if it is not in use. The Department of Environmental Conservation can approve other coatings or methods that are equally protective. Pipes and other equipment are not counted as tanks. The law takes effect immediately.
