Essex County’s extra sales tax authority extended

The law extends Essex County’s extra sales and use tax authority from November 30, 2025, to November 30, 2027. This continues the authorization period that began December 1, 2013. The extra tax applies only through a county law, ordinance, or resolution. It adds 1 percentage point to the 3% base local rate, for a total local rate of 4%. When imposed, the extra tax costs buyers $1 per $100 in taxable purchases. The extension takes effect immediately.
