Funding keeps state courts running

The law provides $2.67 billion to run the state courts in the 2025-26 fiscal year. Of that, $2.50 billion comes from the main state fund. Starting April 1, 2025, unspent money from past years stays available for the same court uses. The Chief Administrator of the Courts can move funds between major purposes within this budget. Some lines can also pay bills from before April 1, 2025.

Funding for Legislature operations and staff

The law funds day-to-day work of the Legislature for the year starting April 1, 2025. It provides $123.97 million for the State Senate and $7.49 million for the Assembly Ways and Means Committee. It also funds support offices: bill drafting ($19.86 million), the legislative library ($1.02 million), the health service, the messenger service ($1.16 million), ethics oversight ($484,711), computer services ($1.5 million), and the state’s dues to the National Conference of State Legislatures ($477,743). Some lines can also pay bills from before April 1, 2025.

Funds for Lieutenant Governor’s office

The law gives $351,329 to the Lieutenant Governor’s Office for its administration program. The money is for the year starting April 1, 2025.

Legislature recycling and chamber repairs

The law provides $50,000 to the Senate and $50,000 to the Assembly for recycling and conference supplies. It also makes $250,000 available to each chamber for restoration work, funded by grants and bequests. Funds are available for the year starting April 1, 2025.

Funding and pay for redistricting work

The law funds New York’s redistricting work for the year starting April 1, 2025. It gives $1.13 million to the Independent Redistricting Commission and $458,389 to the Legislative Task Force on Demographic Research and Reapportionment. The Commission chair can be paid up to $10,000 each fiscal year, and the vice-chair up to $5,000. Commission members are treated as legislative employees for pay rules.
