Bigger pensions for New York City firefighters

The law takes effect immediately. Police/fire members of the New York City Fire Department Pension Fund can retire with normal pension benefits after 20 service years, regardless of age. For Tier 3 members, the pension after 20 years rises from 42% to 50% of final average salary. These members no longer need 22 service years to reach that benefit level.
