Huntington can transfer parkland to museum

The law lets the Town of Huntington stop using 9.733 acres of parkland and transfer it to the Huntington African American Museum. The land is for exhibits and events and stops being parkland after transfer. The town sets the terms and conditions. Before any transfer, the town must dedicate at least the land’s fair market value to buy new parkland or improve parks. If federal funds supported this land, the town must meet federal rules first, which can include offering equal value and usefulness elsewhere. The law takes effect immediately.
