Steuben communities get larger tax payments

From Dec. 1, 2025, through Nov. 30, 2027, Steuben County must distribute $2.7 million each year from extra-tax net collections. Hornell gets $900,000, Corning gets $900,000, and the towns and villages together get $900,000, up from $850,000 each. Each town or village's share depends on its full property value compared with the total for all towns and villages. The payment schedule also lists the same $900,000 amounts for the 2027–2029 and 2029–2031 periods. The law does not specify how these communities must use the money.

Steuben County's extra sales tax continues

The law takes effect immediately and extends Steuben County's extra 1% sales and use tax authority through Nov. 30, 2027. The extension covers Dec. 1, 2025, through Nov. 30, 2027. The county must impose the extra tax through a local law, ordinance, or resolution. The base county rate stays at 3%, making the total authorized county rate 4%. The extra tax costs purchasers $1 for every $100 in taxable purchases.
