The law lets Broome County charge an extra 1% sales and use tax on top of its 3% rate (up to 4% total). The authority runs from March 1, 1994 through November 30, 2027. The county must pass a local law, ordinance, or resolution to impose the extra 1%. When in effect, you pay the extra 1% on taxable purchases made in Broome County.
