Genesee County’s extra sales tax authority extended
Effective immediately, the law extends Genesee County’s authority to impose an extra 1% sales and use tax. The authorized period runs from September 1, 1994, through November 30, 2027. The extra tax adds to the authorized 3% rate, allowing a total local rate of 4%. The county must adopt or amend a local law, ordinance, or resolution to impose it. Households making taxable purchases subject to this tax pay the extra 1% when the county imposes it.
