The law authorizes Madison County to add an extra 1.0% local sales and use tax. This is on top of the existing 3% local rate, for a total local rate of up to 4%. The county must pass a local law to charge it; when in effect, you pay the added 1.0% on taxable purchases in Madison County. This authority applies from June 1, 2004 through November 30, 2027.
