Allegany County’s extra sales tax authority extended
Effective immediately, the law extends Allegany County’s authority to impose an extra 1.5% sales and use tax. The authority now ends November 30, 2027, instead of November 30, 2025. The extra tax brings the authorized county rate to 4.5%, including the 3% base rate. The county must adopt or amend a local law, ordinance, or resolution to impose it. Purchasers pay the extra tax only when the county imposes it; this law does not raise the authorized rate.
