The law authorizes Allegany County to impose an extra 1.5% sales and use tax through November 30, 2027. When the county has a local law in place, shoppers pay the extra 1.5% on taxable purchases, on top of the 3% local rate. Businesses that sell taxable items in the county must collect and send this tax. The authorization applies for the period December 1, 2004 to November 30, 2027.
