The law lets the city of Batavia stop using about 1.58 acres as parkland and sell it at fair market value. The land may be used for free municipal parking and to preserve the historic Brisbane mansion for homes or a hotel. Before the sale, the city must set aside at least the land’s fair market value to buy new parkland or make park improvements. If federal money helped the park, the city must follow federal conversion rules and provide replacement land of equal value and usefulness. The act takes effect immediately.
