College admission access for online graduates

New York public college regulations must recognize admission eligibility for graduates of qualifying U.S. online high school programs. Programs must have more than 10,000 students completing them nationwide each year and meet Job Corps handbook accreditation standards. Those standards include later handbook updates. Community college and university trustees must adopt matching admission policies or standards, despite conflicting laws or rules. Eligibility does not guarantee admission. The law takes effect on the 90th day after enactment and allows needed rule changes on or before that date.

State aid access for online graduates

A diploma or equivalent from a U.S. online high school can meet New York's state student-aid credential requirement. The program must meet the named Job Corps handbook accreditation standards, including later updates. This applies to students who first receive aid in academic year 2007–08 or later. It does not guarantee an aid award or set an aid amount. The change takes effect on the 90th day after enactment.
