Police spouses keep benefits after remarriage

The law lets surviving spouses of New York City police pension members keep survivor benefits even if they remarry. You must not have renounced survivorship rights in a separation agreement. The $600 yearly survivor payment to a spouse keeps going after remarriage; payments to a child stop at age 18. This applies when the member died in service or after retirement. The law takes effect immediately and covers spouses already in pay status and deaths on or after that date.

Sanitation spouses keep benefits after remarriage

The law lets surviving spouses of New York City uniformed sanitation revised plan members keep survivor benefits even if they remarry. You must not have renounced survivorship rights in a separation agreement. The law takes effect immediately and covers spouses already in pay status on that date. It also applies to members who die on or after that date.
