Westchester can add a traffic camera

Effective immediately, Westchester County can add one camera intersection on the Saw Mill River Parkway in Pleasantville. This is beyond the limit of 50 intersections under county jurisdiction at any one time. Vehicle owners can face monetary penalties when drivers violate traffic signals caught by the program's cameras. The county and state transportation department can install advance warning signs that meet the state's traffic-sign manual standards. The county needs written state transportation approval for the added camera and for placing or maintaining parkway signs. The department can change or cancel either approval. The county can also run an education campaign before the authorized cameras start operating. These changes expire with the underlying temporary camera-program law; this law does not extend that program.
