How much veterans tuition awards pay

Beginning July 1, 2025, each semester your award pays the smaller of SUNY resident tuition for your program or your actual tuition that term. If you study part-time, the award is pro-rated. The award is not reduced by your Montgomery GI Bill benefits or Pell Grants.

Who qualifies for veterans tuition awards

Beginning July 1, 2025, New York changes who can get veterans tuition awards. You qualify only if you served at least four years on active duty, or you served in hostilities after February 28, 1961 and received an Armed Forces, Navy, or Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal. Eligible veterans include Vietnam-era, Persian Gulf, Afghanistan, and other veterans defined by the program. You must be enrolled in an approved undergraduate or graduate degree program, or an approved vocational training program, and apply. Awards are capped at the equivalent of eight full-time semesters.
