Quick bed bug notices for renters

When a landlord knows a unit has bed bugs, they must give written notice to tenants immediately above, below, and adjacent within 72 hours. If bed bugs are in a shared area, they must post a clear notice where all tenants can see it within 72 hours. Neighbor notices cannot name the tenant or identify the unit with the infestation.

Court orders override bed bug notices

If your building is under a court order, legal settlement, or binding regulator agreement on bed bugs, the neighbor and common-area notice rules above do not apply while that order or agreement is in effect. Notices and cleanup then follow the court or regulator’s rules.
