When Putnam County imposes the extra 1% tax, one-ninth of the net money goes to towns and villages. The county splits it by each place’s population using the latest federal census. Each town or village gets at least $50,000 a year. The money must be used only for local infrastructure and capital projects. These rules apply through November 30, 2027.
You pay 1% more on taxable purchases made in Putnam County. The county must have a local law in place to collect this extra 1%. The authority runs from September 1, 2007 through November 30, 2027. Your extra cost equals your Putnam taxable spending times 1%.
