Orange County keeps extra tax revenue

From December 1, 2025, through November 30, 2027, net collections from Orange County’s additional sales and use taxes go to the county. The county must use this money only for county purposes. These collections are excluded from revenue-sharing agreements under New York Tax Law section 1262(c). This rule directs tax revenue; it does not provide a household payment.

Orange County’s extra sales tax authority extended

Effective immediately, the law extends Orange County’s extra sales and use tax authority from November 30, 2025, through November 30, 2027. The extra 0.75% rate sits on top of the separately authorized 3% county rate, making the combined county rate 3.75%. This does not include state taxes. Charging the extra rate requires the county to adopt or amend a local law, ordinance, or resolution. When charged, the extra tax adds 75 cents to a $100 taxable purchase.
