Aid group for Brockport volunteer firefighters

The law creates the Brockport Exempt Volunteer Firefighters’ Benevolent Association, Inc. It exists to help volunteer and exempt volunteer firefighters and their families with relief, health and safety, morale, and a headquarters. People can join if they are now, were, or will be active volunteers in the Brockport Fire Department or any fire company in the Brockport Fire District, and they gain exempt volunteer firefighter status under state law. Anyone removed for cause, expelled, or dropped and not reinstated is not eligible. Membership ends if active service stops before exempt status is earned.

Insurance taxes fund Brockport firefighters’ aid

Beginning January 1, 2026, the association receives foreign fire insurance premium taxes on policies covering property in the Village of Brockport, the Town of Sweden (Monroe County), and any area the Brockport Fire District protects. It also gets its share of another insurance tax based on business written in that territory. The officer named in the bylaws collects the money with the same powers as a fire department treasurer. These taxes can be used only for the association’s stated purposes, like care and relief for disabled or indigent volunteer and exempt volunteer firefighters and their families, health and safety, morale, and a headquarters.
