Underserved community services get $90M

Beginning April 1, 2025, the state funds a $90 million program in the Department of State for underserved communities. The money pays nonprofit and civic groups for community programs, crisis help, housing help, economic development, job training, education, and health services. The law names seven groups and sets exact amounts: $15 million each to Asian American Federation, Coalition for Asian American Children and Families, Catholic Charities Community Services of the Archdiocese of New York, and the Fund for the City of New York; and $10 million each to the New York Urban League, United Way of Greater New York, and Local Initiatives Support Corporation. The law lets this funding flow even if usual state finance rules would limit it.
