Mamaroneck library gets flexible board size

Effective immediately, the Mamaroneck Public Library District board can have 5 to 15 trustees, instead of exactly 11. Its exact size must follow New York Education Law section 260. At the first regular meeting, trustees draw lots to set staggered term endings. Three terms end after one year, four after two years, and four after three years. Vacancies are filled at the annual district election for three-year terms, starting June 1 after the election. Only qualified district voters can be elected trustees, and each trustee can serve at most three consecutive three-year terms. At its first meeting each year, the board must elect or appoint a president, vice-president, clerk, and treasurer. It also selects any other officers it finds necessary. The president and vice-president must be trustees. The board can choose nonmembers as clerk and treasurer and set their pay by resolution. The law does not set a direct household payment or benefit.
