Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Stay on payroll 90 days without primary

If your office has no primary, you may stay on the board’s payroll for up to 90 days before the general election. This allowance only covers that 90‑day pre‑general window. These payroll and work limits do not apply to unpaid party positions; holders of those roles are exempt.

New rules for election workers who run

A board of elections employee cannot stay on that board’s payroll while running for an office it oversees, unless a majority of commissioners approves it under State Board rules. You become a candidate when you file a designating or nominating petition, or accept a nomination made without a petition. The State Board sets when local boards may allow continued work and can bar you from tasks tied to your own election and add other limits. You may take leave without pay until your candidacy ends or the day after results are certified, whichever comes first.
