Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 2 mixed.

No occupancy tax after 30 nights

If you stay 30 straight nights in a Catskill hotel or motel, you are a permanent resident. Permanent residents do not pay the occupancy tax on their room. The 30 nights must be consecutive.

Catskill hotel stays face 4% tax

In the village of Catskill, hotel and motel stays are taxed. Bed-and-breakfasts and tourist facilities count as hotels. The tax is 4% of the room’s nightly rate, per room. Other lodging types in the village are not taxed.

Hotels can collect occupancy tax from guests

The village can adopt a local law that makes guests pay the tax to the hotel. Hotels and motels then collect the tax from guests and send it to the village. This changes how the tax is collected, not the tax rate.
