Hotel owners must collect tax

Local law can require owners or the person entitled to rent to collect the occupancy tax from guests and pay the village. The tax is treated like rent and is due when the rent is due. In any court action to collect unpaid tax, the village treasurer or named fiscal officer must be a party.

4% room tax allowed in Coxsackie

The law lets the Village of Coxsackie pass a local law to charge an occupancy tax. If adopted, the tax is 4% of the daily room rate per room. It can apply to hotels, motels, bed-and-breakfasts, and tourist lodgings in the village. You do not pay this tax if you stay at least 30 straight days in the same room.
