Signed affirmations now count in court

In New York civil cases, you can file a signed affirmation instead of an affidavit or other sworn paper. It must say you declare the truth under New York perjury penalties, include the date, and be signed. You may note parts stated on information and belief. You can make it wherever you are. It does not replace depositions, oaths of office, or oaths that must be before a specific official. This rule is in effect now.

Marriage agreements still need deed acknowledgment

For prenups, postnups, and other marriage agreements, the old rule stays. You still must have the agreement acknowledged like a deed. You cannot use a simple affirmation instead. You may still need a notary and any related fees. This applies now.
