More septic upgrade help for homeowners

New York’s State Septic System Replacement Fund reimburses up to 75% of eligible enhanced septic project costs. Payments are capped at $25,000 per property owner. Standard eligible projects receive up to 50%, capped at $10,000 per property owner. Enhanced systems treat wastewater onsite and reduce nitrogen in treated wastewater to 19 milligrams per liter, or significantly and measurably reduce environmental or public-health harm from phosphorus, PFAS chemicals, or related compounds in septic-system or cesspool wastewater. At your written request, payment can go to your contracted installer, with the same dollar cap per property. The law takes effect immediately. Enhanced projects qualify when owners sign a participation agreement with a participating county on or after the effective date.
