The law reimburses part of the cost to replace or upgrade septic systems through a state fund run by the Environmental Facilities Corporation. Standard projects get 50% of eligible costs, capped at $10,000 per property; enhanced projects get 75%, capped at $25,000. An enhanced system lowers total nitrogen to 19 mg/L, or clearly reduces harms from phosphorus or PFAS. The enhanced rate applies only when the owner signs a participation agreement with a participating county on or after the law’s effective date. At your written request, the installer can be paid instead of you, with the same per‑property caps; reimbursements only cover eligible costs on eligible projects.
