The law requires utilities or towns to provide gas and electric service to buildings not already served. The Public Service Commission may require you to pay, or agree in writing to pay, the material and installation costs needed to connect. For electric service, this applies when your building is more than 100 feet from power lines and covers your share of materials and installation. For gas service, the commission may require you to cover the pipe and other installation costs needed to enable service, without a distance rule.
