Wayne County’s extra sales tax authority extended

Effective immediately, the law extends Wayne County’s extra 1% sales tax authority from November 30, 2025, through November 30, 2027. This allows a 4% county rate: the base 3% plus the extra 1%. The county must adopt or amend a local law, ordinance, or resolution to impose the tax. The authorization alone does not mean shoppers currently pay the extra tax on taxable purchases.
