Livingston County’s extra sales tax authority extended

Effective immediately, the law extends Livingston County’s extra 1% sales and use tax authority from November 30, 2025, through November 30, 2027. The county must adopt local legislation to impose it; this law does not itself impose the tax. The extra tax covers the same taxable purchases as the existing 3% county tax, bringing the county rate to 4%. Net money from the extra 1% must stay in a separate fund and first pay the county’s Medicaid expenses. Any money left goes into the county’s general fund for any county purpose.
