Livingston County 1% sales tax for Medicaid

The law lets Livingston County add an extra 1% sales and use tax on top of its basic 3% rate. The county can charge this extra 1% for any time from June 1, 2003 through November 30, 2027, if it passes a local law. When the extra 1% is in effect, you pay 1% more on taxable purchases made in the county. The county must put the net money from this extra 1% into a special fund to pay its Medicaid costs first. Any leftover goes to the county’s general fund for other county needs.
