Full property tax break for 100% disabled veterans starting 2026

The law fully exempts your main home and the needed land from property taxes, special district charges, assessments, and special levies. You qualify only if all are true: your discharge was honorable, or you have a qualifying condition or are a discharged LGBT veteran, and your discharge was not bad conduct or dishonorable. You are permanently and totally disabled from service, you have a 100% VA disability rating, and VA has found you individually unemployable. You are eligible for federal cash help for adapted housing, or you received that help and used it to buy or modify a suitable home and the necessary land. This new exemption is in addition to other veterans’ exemptions and does not cancel them. The exemption cannot reduce your taxable assessed value below zero. It applies to assessment rolls with taxable status dates on or after October 1, 2026.
