Tower worker protections from 2025 repealed

The law repeals the 2025 labor-law article that created protections for telecommunications tower technicians. Those statutory protections end July 1, 2026. The repeal applies to work and contracts on or after that date.

New training rules for state tower work

Beginning July 1, 2026, any New York state construction contract for tower services must include required training for all tower technicians. The Office of General Services sets the training and posts it online. Contractors must give the state proof before work starts that every technician finished the required training, with names and training dates. The law does not reduce any rights workers already have under union contracts. These rules apply only to contracts awarded on or after July 1, 2026.
